Udang Private Saxophone Instruction

About Me

Hi! My name is Karl Udang and I was born and raised in Stockton, CA. I graduated from Lincoln High School in Stockton in 2007.

Music has always been a big part of my life.  Some of my musical accomplishments include being selected for the San Joaquin County High School Honor Band for four years, chosen to play in the Northern California Honor Band for three years and in the California's Band Director's Association All-State Honor Band for two years, in which during my senior year I was awarded the honor to be the top ranked tenor saxophone player in the 2007 California All-State Honor groups.

I am recent graduate of the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA where I was a Music Education and Jazz Studies double major.  I have performed with the University Chorus, University Concert Band, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and the Pacific Jazz Ensemble.  Also, I was also very involved with the various chamber groups at Pacific.  I have been a part of Orchestras, a Mens Choir, Mixed Choirs, Saxophone Quartets, Solo Performances, and the Pacific Jazz Combos as well.  I have also conducted various ensembles, such as choirs and saxophone ensembles.  I have studied saxophone under Cathy Ettle, Kristen Florek, Patrick Langham and David Henderson.  Also I have studied flute under Matt Krejci.  I have also been given the opportunity to play alongside with or have had the chance to work with many great artists.  Some of these artists include Joanna Borromeo, Christian McBride, Jeff Clayton, Monty Alexander, Essiet Essiet, Taylor Eigsti, Ray Drummond, Eric Marienthal and Dave Brubeck.

I have had the honor of playing in a lot of great venues, big and small.  Some places and events include the Stockton Asparagus Festival, Stockton's Literacy Day, the Brubeck Festival at Pacific, Santa Cruz Jazz Festival, the prestigious Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival and twice in the New York International Band Festival hosted in the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York City and many more...

As musicians, we always try to have the most fun by playing in as many musical groups as we can. We do that by becoming very active in community groups.  I am a part of the Stockton Community Band at Delta College, an alternate in the Monday Night Jazz Band at Delta College, the Swingaires Jazz Band, a private saxophone quartet, the Valley Concert Band and Sugar Water Purple the band, all on top of the various ensembles at the University.
